Giving Veg The Edge…

The Food Foundation is an independent organisation concerned with helping people make the right food choices for better health. In late summer they announced Peas Please – a competition to design a poster aimed at primary school children to encourage them to eat vegetables.

While it’s not in our usual remit, the creative team at Northstar took up the challenge, and produced our entry based on V-Power, with veg being your ‘power plant’. And from over 80 entries from ad and design agencies across the entire UK, ours was selected for the final 10!

That meant a trip to London for Northstar’s Emma and Ben to the Food Foundation’s ‘Vegetable Summit’ – an event involving the heads of all the major supermarkets and many more making a pledge for veg, to put it top of the food agenda.

As part of the lunchtime gathering, the winner would be announced by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and advertising legend Sir John Hegarty – who also judged the shortlisted entries with a group of primary school children, who lauded high praise on the creative work.

Though we didn’t win, in a follow-up email from the Food Foundation’s Alexandra Ward, she told us our poster had received very positive feedback from Sir John. She also hinted there may be a chance of working with them further in the near future – so watch this space!
